Founding Principle

After working in Hollywood, California in film production and film preservation for many years, President and Founder, Taylor Whitney realized there was a void in preserving film other than those produced by the major motion picture studios. Taylor founded Preserving The Past, LLC in 1997 to address that void and offer the same preservation, digitization and archival services used in Hollywood to private collections—at affordable rates.

Despite the fluctuating economic climate we have managed to adhere to this founding principle for more than 20 years ensuring our cultural heritage, across the socioeconomic spectrum, is preserved for future generations.

Company Statement

Preserving The Past, LLC specializes in the access, digitization and preservation of film, video and photographic collections and documenting the stories behind the images contextualizing content. Taking an archival approach, we combine traditional methods with digital technology to meet our clients’ business objectives. Our approach to collections management is to implement proven workflow and methodology including organize, process identification, catalogue, condition reporting, digitize, database, re-house and cold storage. We believe that by helping our clients preserve their corporate, institutional and personal legacies, we are contributing to the preservation of our cultural heritage, enabling the dissemination of information that, due to inherent deterioration and obsolete formats and equipment, might otherwise never be accessed, seen or repurposed.
